Paper pools

The paper pools emerged from my wanting to use other media besides oil and from experiments in trying to create 'the pattern' – that lattice of light on the bottom of an outdoor swimming pool or Lido – without always having to work from a photo. It helps to have a story in mind during the process of creating the figures, so I name each paper pool after a character. They might be swimmers I have observed at the lido, famous Hollywood couples, or even Victorian novelists. You never know who’s swimming. Available currently from Studio 73 in Brixton Village, £120 unframed, £200 framed.

You in the picture

I also do paper pool commissions: you can choose the pose, swimsuit, hat and background. I can even base it on a picture of you
